AustraliaTrip 2015/16: Giftnattern und Herping in Far North Queensland/Elapids and herping in Far North Queensland

Am 01.05.16 fuhr ich von Newell Beach nach Mossman, wo ich den Tag auf dem dortigen Campingplatz und im örtlichen Schwimmbad, direkt am Campingplatz, verbrachte.
At the first of May 2016 I drove from Newell Beach to Mossman, where I spent the day at the local camp ground and in the public pool, next to the camp ground.

Gestern (02.05.16) fuhr ich morgens nach Cooya Beach. Dort lief ich am Strand entlang und genoß das gute Wetter.
Yesterday (02/05/16) I drove to Cooya Beach in the morning. I walked along the beach and enjoyed the nice weather.

Anschließend fuhr ich zu Shane Black. Dort durfte ich mir seinen Bestand ansehen. Dieser umfasst diverse australische Giftnattern (Küsten- & Inlandtaipane, Mulgaschlangen, Todesottern, Tigerottern, etc.), Pythons (Grüne Baumpythons, Rauten- & Teppichpythons) und ein paar Echsen.
Afterwards I drove to Shane Black. There I was allowed to look at his collection. This includes a diversity of elapids (coastal & Inland taipans, mulga snakes, death adders, tiger snakes, etc.), Pythons (green tree pythons, rough-scaled and carpet pythons) and a couple of lizards.

Am Nachmittag fuhr ich mit Shane und Jas zu diversen Herpingspots, um dort nach Tieren zu suchen. Unser erster Fund war ein Küstentaipan (Oxyuranus scutellatus scutellatus), welcher jedoch bevor wir Fotos machen konnten im hohen Gras verschwand. Im Laufe des Nachmittags und Abends fanden wir unter anderem diese Arten:
In the afternoon I drove to a couple of herping spots with Shane and Jas to look for animals there. Our first find was a coastal taipan (Oxyuranus scutellatus scutellatus), which disappeared into the high grass before we were able to take any photos. In the afternoon and the evening we found these species amongst others:

Bynoe's Gecko (Heteronotia binoei)

Burton's Snake-lizard (Lialis burtonis)

,,Night Tiger`` Braune Baumschlange/'Night Tiger' brown tree snake(Boiga irregularis)

,,Julatten'' Dschungelteppichpython/'Julatten' jungle carpet python (Morelia spilota cheynei)

Leider fanden wir auch einige Roadkills.
Sadly we also found a couple of road kills.

Am späten Abend besuchten wir noch einen Freund von Shane, welcher mir seinen Bestand an Todesottern zeigte.
In the late evening we visited a friend of Shane, who showed me his death adder collection.

Anschließend fuhren wir zurück zu Shane, wo ich meinen Camper für die Nacht in der Einfahrt abstellen durfte.
After that we drove to Shane, where I was allowed to park my camper in his driveway for the night.

Heute (03.05.16) fuhr ich nach Port Douglas. Nachdem ich auf einem Campingplatz eingecheckt hatte bin ich erst zum Strand und von dort zum Aussichtspunkt gelaufen. Danach ging es zur Port Douglas Marina, um anschließend durch die Stadt zurück zum Campingplatz zu laufen.
Today (03/05/16) I drove to Port Douglas. After I checked in at a camp ground I walked to the beach and from there to the lookout. After that I went to the Port Douglas Marina and went back to the camp ground through the town centre.
