Great Barrier Reef

Gestern (04.05.16) war ich am Great Barrier Reef schnorcheln. Morgens um kurz vor 8 wurden ich und andere Leute von ihren Unterkünften mit dem Shuttlebus abgeholt und zur Port Douglas Marina gefahren. Anschließend ging es aufs Boot, wo jeder sein Schnorchelequipment (Stinger-Suite, Tauchermaske & Schnorchel) bekam. Dann ging es auch schon los. Wir fuhren circa 90 Minuten zum Opal Reef am Outer Reef. Während dieser Zeit bekamen wir Sicherheitsinfos und Instruktionen für das Schnorcheln am Riff.
Yesterday (04/05/16) I went snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef. In the morning shortly before 8 other People and I got pick up at their accommodation and brought to the Port Douglas Marina with a shuttle bus. Afterwards we went on board, where everybody got his/her snorkeling equipment (stinger Suite, mask and snorkel). Then we started. We drove about 90 minutes to Opal Reef at the outer reef. During this time we got safety Information and instructions for snorkeling at the reef.

Dann sind wir an unserem ersten Schnorchelspot angekommen: Ray-ban am Opal Reef. Nach einem kurzen Briefing ging es ins Wasser.
Then we arrived at our first snorkel spot: Ray-ban at Opal Reef. After a short briefing we went into the water.

Nach einer Stunde schnorcheln ging es zurück aufs Boot, wo es Kaffee, Tee, Kuchen und Obst gab. Dann ging es direkt weiter zum zweiten Spot: Bashful Bommie. Dort wurde die Gruppe, welche aus 40-50 Leuten bestand, in drei Kleingruppen aufgeteilt und jede Gruppe hat von einem der Meeresbiologen der Crew eine 20-30 minütige Tour durchs Riff bekommen. Die restlichen 30-40 Minuten hatten wir zur freien Verfügung.
After an our we went back to the boat, where we got coffee, tea, cake and fruits. Then we directly continued the drive to the second spot: Bashful Bommie. There the group, which was around 40-50 People, got split up into three small Group and every group got a 20-30 minute guided tour through the reef from one of the marine biologists of the crew. The remaining 30-40 minutes we had to our own courtesy.

Zurück an Bord gab es Mittagessen und während der Fahrt zum dritten Spot einen Vortrag über das Great Barrier Reef von einer der Meeresbiologinnen.
Back on board we had lunch and on the way to the third spot one of the marine biologists did a presentation about the Great Barrier Reef.

Der dritte und letzte Schnorchelspot war Southern North Opal. Auch hier konnten wir wieder eine Stunde schnorcheln. Dieser Spot gefiel mir am besten und ich hatte das Glück dort einen Weißspitzenriffhai zu sehen.
The third and last spot was Southern North Opal. We also had an hour of snorkeling here. I liked this spot the most and was lucky enough to see a white tip reef shark.

Zurück an Bord gab es nochmal Kaffee, Tee, Kuchen und Obst, das Equipment wurde eingesammelt und wir machten uns auf den Rückweg nach Port Douglas. Dort kamen wir gegen 16:30 an. Zurück in Port Douglas wurden wir mit dem Shuttlebus zurück zu unseren Unterkünften gefahren. Danke an die Wavelength Reef Cruises Crew für dieses unvergessliche Erlebnis!
Back on board we got coffee, tea, cake and fruits again, the Equipment was collected and we made us on our way back to Port Douglas. We arrived there at about 4:30 pm. Back in Port Douglas the shuttle bus brought us back to our accommodation. Thank you to the Wavelength Reef Cruises crew for this unforgettable experience!

Den Rest des Tages verbrachte ich auf dem Campingplatz.
I spent the rest of the day at the camp ground.

Heute (05.05.16) bin ich von Port Douglas nach Cooktown gefahren. Während der Fahrt habe ich an ein paar Aussichtspunkten Halt gemacht. In Cooktown besuchte ich das Visitor Centre, checkte auf einem Campingplatz ein und verbringe den Rest des Tages dort.
Today (05/05/16) I drove from Port Douglas to Cooktown. During the drive I stopped at a couple of lookouts. In Cooktown I visited the visitor centre, checked in at a camp ground and will spend the rest of the day there.
