On Monday morning (07/03/16) I did a small stroll through the town. Afterwards I drove to the Old Telegraph Station, took a seat in the adjacent park and took a look at the telegraph station and the surroundings.
Die Nacht verbrachte ich auf einem kostenlosen ,,Campingplatz`` außerhalb der Stadt.
I spent the night on a free "camping ground" outside of the town.
VOLUNTEERING
Am Dienstag (08.03.16) begann mein Volunteering im Alice Springs Reptile Centre. Nach einem Rundgang durch das Reptile Centre begann ich mit der Arbeit. Als erstes stand Saubermachen und Wasserwechsel in den Außenanlagen des Reptile Centres auf dem Programm. Anschließend ging es ans Füttern der Agamen und Skinke, sowie der großen Warane. Nach der Reinigung des Wasserbeckens des kleinen Australienkrokodils war der erste Tag auch schon vorbei. Meinen Camper konnte ich auf dem Hinterhof des Centres abstellen und verbrachte den restlichen Abend und die Nacht im Camper.
On tuesday (08/03/16) my volunteer work at the Alice Springs Reptile Centre began. After a tour through the reptile centre I started to work. First of all I cleaned and changed water in the outside enclosures of the reptile centre. Afterwards I fed the agamids, skinks and the big monitors with the help of a staff member. After I cleaned the pool of the small freshwater crocodile the first day was already over. I was able to park my camper on the back yard of the reptile centre and spent the rest of the evening and the night in the campervan.
Der nächste Tag (09.03.16) begann wieder mit der Reinigung der Außengehege. Anschließend fuhr ich mit Rex Neindorf, dem Besitzer, zu einer Vorschule für eine Educational Show für die Kinder der Schule. Dort sprachen wir über die Reptilien und zeigten sie den Kindern. Diese hatten auch die Möglichkeit die Tiere zu streicheln. Zurück am Reptile Centre ging es mit den Reinigungsarbeiten weiter. Danach ging es zu einer weiteren Educational Show in einem Kinderkrankenhaus. Als letztes half ich Grace bei der Fütterung der Olivpythons hinter den Kulissen.
The next day (09.03.16) started with the cleaning of the outdoor enclosures. Afterwards I drove with Rex Neindorf, the owner, to a preschool for an educational show for the Kids of the school. There we spoke about the reptiles and showed them to the Kids. They also had the possibility to touch them. Back at the reptile centre I continued the cleaning. Then we did another educational Show at a children's Hospital. at last I helped Grace with feeding the olive pythons off display.
Gestern (10.03.16) half ich beim Umbau eines Außengeheges. Danach ging es mit normalen Pflegeaufgaben weiter (Wasserwechsel, säubern, etc.). Am Nachmittag fuhr ich dann mit Sarah zu einem Snake Callout (Schlangennotruf) zu einer Schule. Leider wurde ein Kind gebissen, da die Schlange jedoch nur schwach giftig war ist das Kind nur zur Beobachtung ins Krankenhaus gekommen. Das Tier haben wir leider nicht gefunden. Zurück am Centre ging es mit den Reinigungsarbeiten weiter, u.a. in der Gecko Cave. Am Abend half ich Rex noch bei einer Educational Show für eine Schulklasse im Reptile Centre.
Yesterday (10/03/16) I helped by the reconstruction of an outside enclosure. After that I continued with the normal maintaining work (changing water, cleaning, etc.). In the afternoon I drove to a snake callout with Sarah. Sadly a child got biten, but because the snake was only mildly venomous it was brought to hospital only for monitoring. Unfortunately we didn't find the animal. Back at the centre I continued cleaning amongst others the gecko cave. In the evening I helped Rex with an educational show for a class in the reptile centre.
Heute (11.03.16) ging es nach dem füttern der Geckos und den alltäglichen Reinigungsarbeiten mit Rex zum Veterinär, um einen Perentie zwecks Geschlechtsbestimmung röntgen zu lassen. Zurück im Centre machte ich die Skinke, Geckos und Olivpythons hinter den Kulissen sauber und fütterte das Salzwasserkrokodil. Anschließend half ich Grace noch bei einer Präsentation für eine Schulklasse.
Today (11/03/16) I went, after feeding the geckos and the daily cleaning, with Rex to the vet to get a perentie x-rayed for sex determination. Back at the centre I cleaned the skinks, geckos and olive Pythons off Display and fed the saltwater crocodile. Afterwards I helped Grace with a presentation for a school class.
