Alice Springs Reptile Centre Part 2: Behind the Scenes and venomous snakes/Hinter den Kulissen und Giftschlangen

Die letzten Tage waren sehr ereignisreich. Am 12.03.16 ging es nach den täglichen Reinigungsarbeiten in Quarantäne 2 hinter den Kulissen. Dort reinigte ich zusammen mit Grace die Behälter und Terrarien der Stimsons-, Woma-, Schwarzkopf- und Bredlspythons. Anschließend fütterten wir die Tannenzapfenechsen und Blauzungenskinke mit Schnecken, welche sehr gut ankamen.
The last days were very eventful. At the 12th of march, after finishing the daily cleaining, I cleaned quarantine two behind the Scenes. There I cleaned the enclosures of the stimsons-, woma-, black-headed- and bredls pythons with Grace. Afterwards we fed the shingleback lizards and blue-tongued skinks with snails, which they really liked.

Am Nachmittag durfte ich dann unter Aufsicht von Rex beim saubermachen der Whip Snakes und Curl Snakes helfen (beide Arten sind giftig). Dabei gab er mir Tipps zum Handling der Tiere. Anschließend schaute ich bei einer Führung einer Reisegruppe durchs Reptile Centre zu und holte mir abends ne Pizza, meine erste nach 2 1/2 Monaten.
In the afternoon I was allowed to help, under the supervision of Rex, cleaning the Whip snakes and curl snakes (both species are venomous). Thereby Rex gave me some tips for the handling of these animals. Afterwards I joined a tour for a tour group through the reptile centre and got myself a Pizza in the evening, my first Pizza after two and a half months.

Am nächsten Tag (13.03.16) gab es neben den alltäglichen Reinigungsarbeiten zwei Highlights. Das erste war ein Snake Callout mit Rex. Es stellte sich jedoch heraus, dass es nur ein Legless Lizard war. Das zweite Highlight war, dass ich mit Rex erneut die Curl und Whip Snakes, sowie die Mulgaschlangen und westlichen Braunschlangen saubermachen durfte. Auch hier gab er mir wieder Tipps fürs Handling und zeigte mir wo ich drauf achten muss.
The next day (13/03/16) there were two highlights besides the daily cleaning. The first was a snake callout with Rex. It turned out that it was just a legless lizard. The second highlight was, that I was allowed to clean the curl and whip snakes again and also the mulga snakes and the western brown snakes with Rex. He gave me some tips how to handle these snakes again and what I have to be aware of.

Heute (14.03.16) war ein recht ruhiger Tag. Neben den alltäglichen Arbeiten gab es zwei Snake Callouts bei denen ich mit war. Beim ersten, mit Sarah, verpassten wir die Schlange knapp. Beim zweiten, mit Rex, fanden wir einen leider toten Stimsonspython in einer Einfahrt. Am Abend wurde noch der Inlandtaipan im Display gefüttert.
Today (14/03/16) was a pretty quiet day. Besides the daily work there were to snake callouts which I joined. At the first callout, with Sarah, we just missed the snake. At the second callout, with Rex, we found a sadly dead stimsons python in a Gateway. In the evening the inland taipan on display was fed.
